Dr Eric Knox

Dr Knox was raised in Fort Dodge, Iowa during his junior high and high school years.  In high school he participated in orchestra, cross country and track. During this time he was also active in Boy Scouts.  In his senior year of high school he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout.  Dr Knox graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High with honors in 1992.  Upon graduation, he entered the University of Iowa and his studies centered around the sciences.  After his freshman year he was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma honor society.  In 1996 he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology, and in the summer of 1996 Dr. Knox entered the University of Iowa College of Dentistry.  During his attendance at the College of Dentistry Dr. Knox was active in dental research, specifically prosthodontics research.  He received the Dows research award and the National Institute of Dental Research Training Grant Award.  He was also a member of the International Dental Research Association and presented at those meetings twice.

Dr. Knox graduated from the college of Dentistry with honors, and with the Dental Materials Research Award.  After graduation from the College of Dentistry Dr. Knox entered an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at New York Medical College in Manhattan, New York.  His training included rotations at Metropolitan Hospital and also St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center of Manhattan. During his rotation at St. Vincent’s, Dr. Knox was involved   in treating 911 victims while in his plastic surgery rotations.  During residency he also was involved in a missionary trip to Honduras where he treated patients with facial deformities.  Dr. Knox was appointed instructor of dental medicine at New York Medical College in July 2003, and in July of 2004 he received his certificate of completion in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the medical college.

In 2004 Dr. Knox returned home and joined Fort Dodge Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.  Currently Dr. Knox treats patients in Fort Dodge, Carroll, and Spencer.  He has staff privileges at Unity Point Medical Center in Fort Dodge.  Dr Knox has special interest in performing surgeries with sedation and/or nitrous oxide(laughing gas) to provide the most comfortable anesthesia possible.  When local anesthesia(numbing) is used, special agents are administered to buffer and prolong their action so that they are less painful on injection, and last longer.  Some of Dr. Knox’s most common procedures include wisdom tooth removal and placement of dental implants.

Dr. Knox also has a passion for cosmetic procedures.  He commonly performs minimally invasive treatments in the office setting with little down time for his patients.  Some of the treatments he offers include.

  • Botox
  • Fillers
  • Laser (to smooth wrinkles, or remove blemishes)
  • Microneedling (to smooth and refresh)
  • PRF (Platelet Rich Fibrin, is extracted from your own blood to naturally accelerate and improve healing, without foreign substances) in conjunction with the other cosmetic procedures

To remain current with changing surgical and cosmetic techniques in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. Knox regularly attends numerous surgical conferences and workshops every year.  He has served as president of the Fort Dodge District Dental Society and also the Iowa Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr Knox is Married and has four children.  He enjoys traveling with his family and attending numerous sporting activities that his children participate in.  He is an avid cyclist with racing experience, and can be found on lonely country roads accumulating many miles in the summer months.  Dr. Knox enjoys dirt bike trail riding when he is finished pedaling but wants to remain on two wheels.  He is a private pilot and commonly travels to the Carrol and Spencer offices by air.  He is a member of the St. Edmond Holy Trinity Parish, and proud supporter of St. Edmond Catholic Schools.  He is a board member of the Twin Lakes District Boy Scout Council.
